File Management
Managing backups is made
significantly easier, if the data to be backed up is stored centrally, i.e.
on a file server. If data is scattered throughout the organisation, then it
becomes much more difficult for administrators to track the data. Granted,
it is still possible, but administrators cannot legislate for users who
create new data objects without informing backup operators. So, all in all,
it is far simpler for users to be informed of designated storage areas.
Should they fail to comply with the guidelines, then loss of data shall be
their own responsibility.
